/ About the project
At Airbnb.org, I established and led the creative department from the ground up, driving a fundamental shift in how we visually represented our mission. My approach focused on moving beyond traditional imagery, like the common depiction of saviorism, to a more authentic, respectful storytelling approach that centered the communities we served. This involved reimagining our brand's color palette, streamlining visual elements, and creating mood boards and photography guidelines that emphasized representation, honor, and hopefulness. I crafted ethical storytelling principles, such as understanding context, maintaining transparency, and advocating through visual choices, which became foundational to our brand’s ethos.
I also initiated relationships with renowned agencies like Tom Claxton and creatives such as Rose Marie Cromwell, and Sasha Arutyanova, who contributed to impactful projects, including one of Airbnb.org’s first short films—a project that has since influenced the organization’s emotive and thought-provoking visual direction. From social impact reports to social media visuals and landing pages, my work laid the groundwork for a creative strategy that is both honest and hopeful, with visuals that connect deeply with viewers while respecting and elevating the communities we serve.
